It was an honor for SpeedBuilder Systems (SBS) to be named InsuranceCIO Outlook magazine’s Top Property and Casualty Web Based Insurance Software of 2025. We appreciate that our hard work and customer dedication was recognized by this prestigious publication.
When I started SpeedBuilder Systems nearly twenty-five (25) years ago, my goal wasn’t to be the biggest – it was simply to be the best: the best at delivering a quality policy administration system with the agility to get our clients to the marketplace as quickly as possible. Having worked for two, very large tech companies myself, I saw first-hand the inefficiencies, internal demands, and politics of big, corporate America, and how these challenges limited solution delivery. I also witnessed the effects of customers being viewed as merely one of many, potential revenue streams. I also wanted a company focused on delivering a system that answered the needs of small to medium-sized insurers, in addition to large carriers, all while recognizing that my clients have goals similar to my own.
SBS started as a reseller of a platform-independent rating solution designed to integrate with legacy systems. This quickly grew into a quote, issuance, and policy maintenance system. Over time, the claims and billing modules were added, creating a complete system that supports all aspects of property and casualty operations.
We didn’t rush; instead, we built the system methodically over time, focusing on certain design principals that enable us to get clients to market faster. We used a “low-code” model before that term existed, and ensured we could support the entire policy lifecycle without the need to reinvent the wheel for each implementation.
Today, our solution, the BindExpress Suite, is a complete policy administration system offering a configurable, easy-to-use platform on which carriers, MGAs, agents, underwriters, claims professionals, and consumers interact. We built and maintain thousands of configuration options that support quick user set-up, effortless business rules, and flexible process customization.
Further, we offer the BindExpress AlwaysCurrent™ architecture - the only market solution that enables clients to customize the system as desired, yet accept all product updates and enhancements at any time, without retrofitting the customized code.
BindExpress Suite is available through a variety of options designed to meet the unique needs of each client. While most clients opt for a SaaS model, with SBS hosting the underlying infrastructure, we also work with clients who manage the system themselves. We support clients for whom we do all customization and configuration work, while other clients prefer to write and maintain their own changes within the BindExpress code. Our flexibility in working with our clients ensures both parties are successful.
How do we do it? BindExpress was built by a team of insurance professionals I carefully selected over the years. Our team boasts years of experience as underwriters, claim adjusters, accountants, and agents, not to mention the technical expertise of our developers and architects. I assembled a team who understands the day-to-day operational needs of insurers and MGAs, including those with specialty line and niche market backgrounds.
The result: an end-to-end policy administration solution supporting all property and casualty lines of business, including niche markets such as non-standard automobile and marine insurance.
For example, a large MGA client went live with a non-standard auto product in December, completing the fifth implementation of its kind in recent years.
Another success story, Eagle Ocean America (EOA) went live with commercial marine in all fifty (50) states in 2023.
“We looked at a lot of different systems, but none of the others offered both the flexibility to underwrite and quote our unique line of business, and the ability manuscript our own forms and documentation. BindExpress has these two capabilities in a single platform,” said Steve Lewis, vice president of EOA.
“Commercial Marine is very different from other lines of business,” Lewis noted. “The SBS team grasped our unique requirements and applied that knowledge to the BindExpress product very quickly. And it didn’t feel like a sales process. It was essentially a consultation, without any hard sell.”
In 2025, we celebrated the 20th anniversary of our longest client relationship, a mid-sized, regional carrier with 11 lines of business. Our success is a true testament to the SpeedBuilder team’s focus on customer relationships and of the agility and completeness of our solution.
As stated, when I founded SpeedBuilder Systems all those years ago, my goal wasn’t to be the largest software solution in the market. My goals were to provide the best policy administration system in the market for small to medium sized insurers and MGAs, to build the solution with the agility for clients to move to market quickly, and to build lasting customer relationships.
