In that case, the orchestrator automatically spins up more instances of that service to handle the load, then scales it back down when demand subsides. If a service fails, the orchestrator instantly replaces it. This provides a level of resilience and elastic scalability that is impossible in a monolithic, on-premise world.

This architecture is intrinsically linked with a DevOps culture, enabling Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD). Teams can update, test, and deploy their individual microservices independently, without affecting the rest of the system. This is the engine of speed.
